Investor Visas
Active Investor Plus Visa
New Zealand welcomes international investors who are ready to contribute to its economy. The Active Investor Plus Visa offers a pathway to residency for those willing to invest significantly in New Zealand businesses and sectors, helping to fuel growth, innovation, and community development.
What is the Active Investor Plus Visa?
The Active Investor Plus Visa is designed for high-net-worth individuals who want to:
– Gain New Zealand residency.
– Invest in New Zealand’s economy.
– Bring their talent, ideas, and international connections to the country.
Successful applicants and their families can enjoy the benefits of living, working, studying, and eventually applying for permanent residence visas and citizenship.
There are two investment pathways under the Active Investor Plus Visa:
Requirement | Growth Investment | Balanced Investment |
---|---|---|
Minimum Investment | NZD 5 million | NZD 10 million |
Investment Term | 3 years | 5 years |
Types of Investments | – Approved Managed Funds – Direct Investments | – Approved Managed Funds – Direct Investments – NZ Listed Companies – Bonds (Government, Local, Corporate) – Property Development* – Philanthropic Investments |
Physical Stay Requirement | 21 days over 3 years | 105 days over 5 years** |
Age and English Language | No requirements | No requirements |
* Special conditions apply to property investments — professional advice is highly recommended.
** The required days can be reduced by investing extra amounts (e.g., NZD 1–3 million additional investment for fewer days).
The Active Investor Plus visa policy is complicated. Even after approval in principle, there are areas which could cause significant issues and may result in Immigration New Zealand refusing to grant the residence visa. One common example is the misappropration of approved funds. Once the nominated funds/assets are approved by Immigration New Zealand, these funds/assets are “locked in” and cannot be replaced by other assets. Given the long duration of investment (3 – 5 years) and any mistake could invalidate the applicant’s residency, we strongly recommend you engage with an immigration specialist to manage your Active Investor Plus visa application. During the process we will also connect you with financial advisors, accountants and/or investment brokers to ensure you have the best service and a smooth visa application process.
